A visit from legendary Chicago newsman, Harry Porterfield

It’s not every day that we get to show the non-barbershop world who the Melodeers are.  In May 2013, the Melodeers were featured on the Emmy-award winning news feature: “Someone You Should Know” with legendary Chicago newsman, Mr. Harry Porterfield.

Harry Porterfield is a Chicago institution.  Starting his career in radio broadcasting in 1955, he joined WBBM-TV Chicago in 1964 eventually moving up to the anchor desk.  In 1977, his most famous series, “Someone You Should Know,” aired for the very first time.

In 1985, Mr. Porterfield moved to WLS-TV Chicago, where he still presents “Someone You Should Know” each week.

It was an exciting event to have Mr. Porterfield visit. He conducted interviews with our youngest member, Erin Keever, our most “seasoned” veteran, Kaye Jensen, as well as past International President and choreographer, Renee Porzel, Past International Present, Julie Kendrick and Jim Arns, our Master-Director 700.

The feature captured the essence of who we are and why the Melodeers are, some people you should know!
